Since retirement at the end of January 2011, a good deal of my time has been spent on the renovation of our new residence near Tivoli, NY, where we moved in August.

In January 2011, I gave a paper at a conference in Paris that focused on the Greek and Latin Heritage in Contemporary French Literature. That led me back to some Roman poets I hadn’t read since I studied Classics at the Sorbonne, way back.

In March 2011, I gave a paper on the representation of animals in Claire Denis’ film The Intruder at an annual conference in 20th and 21st century French and Francophone Studies in San Francisco whose general topic was Human/Animal.

This February 2012, I’m giving a presentation at a graduate seminar on emotions in literature in Bordeaux, France. In March, I’ll be again presenting a paper at the 20th-21st Century French and Francophone Studies colloquium, this time in Los Angeles.
